Abstract
This book chapter develops the notion of hybrid warfare, i.e., below-the-surface foreign aggressions that may affect society as a whole. It depicts the phenomenon through which countries wage war against foreign nationals through cyber criminality, lawfare, transnational organized crime, information distortion, election interference and many more tools. Hybrid warfare is central to current geopolitics: attacks taken individually may seem innocuous but taken together, they paint a world in which the frontier between war and peace is all but clear-cut.
The chapter aims to pose the issue of public awareness about hybrid warfare and how future leaders need to be informed about the dangers of the world we all share. It takes a historical perspective and tries to explain the role of academia (esp. conflict resolution and negotiation) in shaping more resilient societies and organizations.
