Abstract

Open Source Digital Platform Ecosystem Strategy China’s OSS Ecosystem China
Since its inception over two decades ago, the open-source software (OSS) movement has evolved into a global open innovation ecosystem (Adner and Kapoor 2015; Bogers et al. 2017), which continues to generate profoundly impactful innovations that have shaped the landscape in cloud computing, block chain, data management, and many other domains in the IT industries. More importantly, many of the OSS are platforms, defined as technological infrastructures provide foundational building blocks upon which other firms can develop complementary goods and services (Fitzgerald 2006; Gawer 2014; O’Mahony and Karp 2020). These open platforms have become the keystones of large-scale platform ecosystems with numerous complementors, which enable value co-creation and sharing (Adner 2017; Boudreau 2010).
