Abstract
Insigma is a university-affiliated company. Different from most such companies in China which performed not so satisfactorily, Insigma developed very well. In less than 8 years, it quickly became the no 2 of the software outsourcing companies in China. It even won the bid against those Indian giants and became one of the core service suppliers of the State Street Bank. The development mode and the business model of Insigma drew considerable attention in both the academic world and business communities. In this case, students will analyse Insigma's development stories based on knowledge of 'open innovation' and corporate social network exploration and exploitation. Questions like how to sustain a firm's competitive advantages in a fast-paced industry and how to establish a beneficial corporate social network will be widely discussed. It is suggested that this case be applied in MBA and / or EMBA classes. Students who are interested in management innovation and competitive advantage sustainability are encouraged to participate in this case study.
