Abstract
John Chapman, management board member at Bentex, studied the proposed restructuring plan, and a knot began to form in his stomach. He knew that he had supported putting in place a common operating model across divisions and geographies, but this was going too far. If this plan were to go forward, how could a Divisional Managing Director (MD) ever deliver on his growth and profit goals? There would be so little management authority remaining for MDs, not to mention job prestige.
