Abstract

Academic exchanges International preparation mindset cross cultural intercultural cultural intelligence cross cultural skills competencies soft skills white saviorism student mobility
This case has been written for undergraduate students who prepare for an academic exchange. The case follows a Western student, Lena, in the first 24 hours following the announcement of the destination, India, where she will be going on an academic exchange. Despite her disappointment at not getting her first choice, Lena adopts a positive attitude: she takes the initiative to make contact with some Indians, and thanks to them, she starts to discover their culture and to raise awareness about differences. She is already developing an intercultural attitude and she'll have soon the opportunity to use her new skills in a business case.
