Abstract
Recently, there has been a global race among central banks to launch their Central Bank Digital Currency (CDBC). More than 80% of central banks engage in CBDC development (Boar, Holden, & Wadsworth, 2020, p. 126), while some pilot tests are underway (Auer & Boehme, 2020; Auer, Comelli, & Frost, 2020; CoinDesk, 2020; OMFIF, 2019; Ozturkcan, Kasap, Ozdinc, & Tanaltay, 2019). This paper aims to conceptualize the challenges and opportunities involved with the CBDCs to bring the consumer side under the investigation, especially in the context of COVID-19.
