Marc van Essen is Professor of Strategy and Organization at emlyon business school. He previously served as Associate Dean for International Programs and Partnerships and Interim Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, where he was also Professor of International Business. Prior to joining South Carolina, he was Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of St. Gallen and Director of its Global Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. His research focuses on corporate governance, international business, family business, and strategic management. His work has been published in leading journals, including the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, and Organization Science. His research has received numerous international awards and recognitions and has been widely acknowledged for its scholarly impact. He has been included on Stanford University’s list of the world’s top 2% scientists, based on citations to his work, and has been recognized as one of the world's leading business and management scholars by Research.com. Professor van Essen has taught undergraduate, master's, MBA, executive, and doctoral courses in strategy, international business, corporate governance, ESG, and research methods. He has received multiple teaching awards, including recognition from Poets & Quants as one of the “50 Best Undergraduate Business Professors.” He earned his Ph.D. in Management (cum laude) from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
