Expertise

I am a political and economic sociologist studying how politics generates new opportunities for private firms and nonprofit organizations. In ongoing projects, I explore:

  • the partisan ideologies underlying the government's distribution of competitive contracts to business and civil society actors
  • the political structure of host countries that conditions the internationalization strategy of nonprofits vis-à-vis companies.

My dissertation centers on the rising collaborative philanthropic initiatives between corporate donors and politically powerless social entrepreneurs in China, documenting the potential of such politically fragile and seemingly unlikely collaborations to directly serve the core business interest of the companies.
