Expertise

Ana is joining emlyon business school as an Assistant Professor after completing her PhD in Finance at the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI) in 2025. Her research addresses core questions in corporate finance, often in settings that reflect contemporary societal and economic challenges. She closely follows the financial press and is always eager to exchange ideas and contribute to academic discourse. She is particularly interested in two themes: innovation, and how societal attitudes and politics interact with firms’ funding and financial outcomes. For example, her current work examines how fossil fuel industries respond to societal pressure to transition to a greener economy, through investment and innovation in new technologies. She has also studied different funding instruments for small and young firms, including initial public offerings and bank lending.Prior to her doctoral studies, Ana worked as an asset manager in Geneva, an experience that continues to inform her research and teaching. She has taught and assisted in courses at Católica-Lisbon and the University of Zurich, including Corporate Finance, Empirical Methods in Finance, Python for Finance, and Statistics, across all levels from undergraduate to doctoral.More about Ana and her work (including her participation in the 2025 Zurich edition of “Ma thèse en 180 secondes”) is available at: https://anamaodeferro.wordpress.com.
