Expertise
I am an Associate Professor of Business Anthropology and director of the emlyon Ethnography Institute.
My research articulates an in-depth ethnographic investigation of people’s lived experience of work with a broader concern for how organizations and state institutions produce social and economic inequalities.
I am the author of several books, including “Professional Climber” (EHESS, 2018) and “The Professionalization of Action Sports” (Routledge, 2022). My recent book “Impact Work” (Palgrave MacMillan, 2024) reveals the intricate behind-the-scenes socialization through which entrepreneurs, investors, corporate executives, and policymakers learn the ropes of impact entrepreneurship in Barcelona. My ongoing projects include a monograph titled "Narcopisos: Drug trafficking, speculative practices, and urban marginalization in Barcelona" (Under contract, 2027) and a co-edited volume titled “Organizing at the edge.”
My research transcends disciplinary boundaries, and I have published in journals such as The Academy of Management Discoveries, Work Employment & Society, New Media & Society, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Business Ethics, and Organizational Research Methods. My work has been featured in Liberation, Le Monde Diplomatique, Alpimag, Pop Science, Public Senat, The Irish Times, Recruiter UK, Fintechbloom, Recruiting News Network, among other popular media.
I have held visiting positions at UC Berkeley, UCLA, IESE Business School, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Jönköping International Business School, the University of Colorado, the Open University of Catalonia, and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
