Expertise

Xiaoran Ma is a postdoctoral researcher. She is fascinated by the seduction of language and the power of art, especially film and theatre. As a passionate artgoer, she is curious about how artists work collectively and is invested in improving their working conditions. While her dissertation investigates how film and theatre artists have historically fought hegemony and violence by mobilizing ideological, aesthetic, and affective forces, her ongoing projects focus on how contemporary artists navigate and resist growing precarity and affective atomization.
